Pinoy Vlogging and the Inquirer

Thanks to PinoyBlogosphere.com, I found out that Erwin Oliva of the Inquirer.net posted our video interview at Einthar’s YouTube channel.
I thought Erwin would record videos, and then write articles from them (see Video a new way to express, test ideas, say RP bloggers). I found out about the Inquirer.net post, thanks to the Twitter-ings of andrew_ds and LaTtex.
So I was pleasantly surprised to see our videos online. Here’s Sharing Filipino culture online via vlogging [425×355]:
UPDATE: Erwin shot the video at 640×480 resolution. I wonder why the same video, uploaded to Veoh.com [originally 540×438, but html coded at 425×344] (is Veoh the Inquirer.net’s video player of choice?), looks so much clearer:

And here’s Coy Caballes (ThisIsCoy.net) in Why Filipinos Are Into Video Blogging:
The videos were taken during the Feb. 7, 2008 HappySlip Meet ‘n Greet in Mag:net cafe, Bonifacio High Street, Taguig City.

Hi manuel,
first off, sorry I think i misspelled your name in the article. apologies.
second, i thought you knew i was doing the video for the website
yeah, while you guys are using it to express and test ideas, we’re using it to deliver the news, feature stories, and highlight stuff that you won’t see on TV. it’s a vloggers world, so we’re also using the same means/technology to reach out to more people. thanks again! and happy vlogging.
No problem, Erwin.
At first I thought the video was for the website. Then when I saw the text article (no video) at Inquirer.net, I thought that the video was just for your notes. It was only later that I saw the video at YouTube.
Looking forward to watching more of your vids.
In fact, I think may HD na sila doon. Ang You Tube kasi they use a rather outdated software or coding kaya ganun. Sana they adapt na kasi video is fast evolving and if they don’t adapt, they will have the most crappy looking videos online.
I wonder, Gerry… if YT allows HD, how long will it take us to upload the larger video files? Haynaku… decisions, decisions.
Hello Manuel! I think You Tube is now testing higher resolution videos. I normally upload videos of better quality than You Tube requires. I don’t know why I do it, but it turns out that You Tube does keep the original file, even as they reduce the resolution to their current standard in the videos that are publicly shown.
I found somewhere online a trick where you can actually see a higher resolution version of your You Tube video (provided you uploaded a higher resolution video in the first place). I tested it with mine, and yes, the video does look much better and with a lot more detail, but not too much.
Right now I think You Tube is just testing it but you can test your own videos if it can look better. I’ve got screenshots which compares before and after, as well as how to do the test, in the latest post of my Bidjo site (link on my name).
