Should you have more than 1 blog?

Well, if you’re interested in promoting your company and its products, and if you want to reach as many targeted customers as possible, then you definitely should publish more than one blog.

Here’s exactly what I mean about making money online via multiple blogs…

If you have a travel blog and you also want to write about your hobby (e.g., photography), then please create another blog in Blogger (you may use the same Google account you used when you created your travel blog).

There’s no need to create a second Blogger account (or a second GMail account). But nothing prevents you from doing so, if you feel that will help you get more organized.

How should you name your photography blog?

You will need to ask yourself what it is that you want to achieve, what kind of people you wish to attract, and what words or phrases they are typing in the search engines (keyword research).

If you want to build your name online as a photographer, then include your name in the title of your new blog. For example, “Juan Dela Cruz Photography”

Should you just include your photography tutorial series in your travel blog?

You can mention the series, especially in the pages of your travel blog that feature the photos you took.

You may also create a blog that’s all about you, and then post links to your travel blog and also your photography tutorial blog.

Clearly, you are not limited to having just one blog.

Can you use your photography teaching series to generate leads for your MLM or network marketing business?

Yes, you can use anything you publish online to do this. You can use a direct or indirect approach.

Using the direct approach, you can go ahead and simply talk about an MLM opportunity right inside your blog post. For example, click here to read about a Cell Phone Loading Business.

If you opt for the indirect approach, you can prominently feature an “About Juan Dela Cruz” link (if your name is Juan Dela Cruz).

It will be that page that talks about Juan and, several paragraphs down the page, the MLM business of Juan.

Having multiple blogs gives you multiple opportunities to reach different people at different times. You can then funnel that audience to your main websites (which do not necessarily have to be blogs).

If you prefer to simply consolidate everything into a SINGLE blog. Go ahead. You will still succeed.

But if you’re after more focused inquiries and higher SEO points, or better placement in the search engines, and if you can write at least 20 articles about a topic, then please spin that off as another blog.

To Your Success!

Do you appreciate the FREE info that you found here? Please show your support and click the LIKE button below, and we will publish more of the content that YOU want. Thanks!

Some of my friends turn to blogging basically to promote their company or business, or to quickly publish page upon page of potential online advertising earners. But there are many ways to use blogging.

Take scratchpad blogging, for example…

I use blogging sometimes to quickly jot down notes which I will revisit months down the road. This helps me remember things without having to stress out and force a thought into my brain.

Writing things down relaxes your mind, which allows new things to quickly enter.

I used to rely heavily on pen and paper. And although I haven’t completely given up on it, I find having a Search button quite convenient. And that’s one reason why I blog.

A lot of people pass through Park N Ride on a daily basis. The number reaches into the hundreds of thousands. And oftentimes, people end up just waiting for their bus so that they can commute to their destination.

Instead of just waiting and doing nothing, why don’t you learn how to earn money via the internet by attending a seminar or short talk right inside Park N Ride?

If enough people are interested and are willing to pay, then some bloggers will organize Internet Marketing talks just for you.

If you pass through Park N Ride and are interested in joining the talks, please let us know. Thanks!

My List of Nominees

When In Manila (http://www.wheninmanila.com) – Lifestyle, Travel, and Fake News? Hilarious. I also like the way they integrate the power of Facebook in their homepage. No, make that in practically EVERY page. Talk about INFLUENCE.

The Creative Dork (http://thecreativedork.com) – Interesting blogroll treatment. And I’m biased in favor of The Little Prince. Plus, a healthy number of comments.

NomNom Club (http://nomnomclub.com) – I wonder if the blogger is somehow related or connected to the owners of Red Ribbon. Nice photos. I now have this urge to gobble up comfort food.

FaceBuko (http://facebuko.com) – How can this not be influential? Filipinos practically spend all their time in FB. ;-p

tara na! (http://tara-na.com) – People love food (especially affordable eats). Food talk online? Definitely on the way up the influence ladder.

The Thirsty Blogger (http://www.thirstyblogger.com) – Hetong pantulak. It’s a drink blog that will definitely catch the eye of the consuming public. But the blogger will eventually branch out to other topics. I hope that doesn’t, uhm, dilute his influence in the future.

Project 52 Weeks (http://www.project52weeks.com) – Interesting. 52 weeks, 52 short films. As more people consume online video, I wouldn’t be surprised if their online popularity will eventually transport them into the world of local television.

Kusina Maria: A Filipina’s Food and Cooking Blog (http://www.kusinamaria.com) – Mouth-watering photos. Plus recipes and battle-tested cooking tips!

NoBenta: I Love the 90′s! (http://no-benta.blogspot.com) – Coming in at Number 9, a blog about the 1990s. My friends often talk about the 80s, but this decade-after group is making its mark online. Get to know this generation.

Manila Shopaholic (http://manilashopaholic.com) – People still have time to go online, and also go shopping? This blog gives people hope, and that is a key ingredient when it comes to having influence. Makapag-shopping na nga!

Wow… Food, drink, and shopping. I was debating whether or not to include an Entertainment or Pinoy Showbiz type of blog in the list, but I figured Twitter and Facebook are already doing a good job.

How exactly does the world change? And does blogging play a part in creating that kind of change? Here’s the simple truth…

The world changes because people change. Whether it is our thoughts, our words, or even our actions, we all feel a sense of change within us.

We might be happier today than yesterday. Or sadder. Or more determined. Or perhaps frightened. Inspired, maybe.

And as our thoughts and feelings change, so too do our actions and the way we behave.

How exactly does blogging change the world?

Blogs affect the thoughts and feelings of both the blogger and the reader. These changes help shape the future actions that the blogger and the reader will take.

Since these actions have an effect on other people and consequently, the rest of the world, that’s why we say that blogging can change the world.

I read Debbie’s The Real-time Web vs. Real-time Living, and I feel that “real-time web” works great with real-time news, and not necessarily with real-time living.

Living, in real life, can often be quite relaxed or even uneventful. So what wants to Twitter that?

All those articles, gone. But that’s not all that disappeared…

Wikipedia Grappling with Deletion of IHT.com shows you what happens when you publish articles that link to or reference webpages that no longer exist. Yes, it means you’ll have to edit or update those pages.

Unfortunately, in the case of Wikipedia, a considerable number of pages contain links to a now non-existent site. I wonder if this will make bloggers or online publishers wary about pointing to other resources online.

I’ve gone through a number of old blog entries and see references to what are now defunct sites, or worse, are re-purposed domain names. It makes me wonder if I’ll just mention other websites in email newsletters that don’t live too long online.

Then again, nothing really lasts forever. Not even out here on the web.

Is there really a difference between a diarist blogger and a new media blogger? And if there actually is, is that distinction significant enough particularly when it comes to credibility, truth, or plain good manners online?

In Rom Sedona’s blog entry Diarist over at Smoke.PH, she opines:

Which brings me to the ultimate difference between a diarist blogger and a new media blogger: a diarist can change whatever he said, whenever wants, with absolutely no responsibility to anyone because all he writes about – all he represents himself to be writing about – is his own take on the subject.

Hmmm… when I see the word “blogger” I think of the web. I think of things online, and imagine a rather public place.

When you express your opinion in public, how can you have “absolutely no responsibility to anyone” who reads/hears/views your changed message?

In a public setting, are we not expected to behave in a certain manner? And aren’t we expected to take responsibility for our actions and brace for the consequences that follow the things we do?

The fundamental difference between a diarist blogger and a new media blogger is that the former is trying to be low-key about the fact that things he or she publishes online can be viewed by a larger number of people.

Diarist: Old media (on paper, cassette tapes); New Media (online)
Podcaster: Old media (radio stations, cassette tapes); New Media (online)
Vlogger: Old media (TV, digicam); New Media (online)
Blogger: Old media (huh?); New Media (online)

So, if you publish anything publicly or online, be responsible for what you write, edit, record, or delete. Ultimately, you can no longer hide behind your “opinions” on the internet.

Welcome to the “new media”, diarist bloggers!

For newcomers interested in credibility in blogging, here’s a tip on how to disclose your blog edits. It’s just a short piece of HTML code which you can easily type, so don’t worry. And after you’re done with this mini-tutorial, you can say that you even learned a bit of HTML.

If you blogged in the heat of passion and wrote something nasty about people (sometimes based on just a hunch), you can delete those words and your latest site visitors will not even know you did that. But other people would, and some might even blog about it, so it is in your interest as a blogger to disclose the edit.

The HTML tags are <strike> and </stike> (you will need to put the words you struck out of your blog post between those two tags.

For example, you can type this in your blog post:

The <strike>quick</stike> fast brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs.

In addition, you can also insert some kind of explanation (right there in the blog post that you edited) so that your readers will know where you’re coming from, and also so that people can judge for themselves whether your motives are believable. Check out the example below:

I want to hear Manuelski Vilorski’s side and why his <strike>equally dysfunctional</strike> father (a Peacemaker appointee) looked the other way.

[EDIT: I decided to go for the ironic "peacemaker appointee" after recently discovering that particular designation.]

Other bloggers opt for another technique: They do not materially edit their old blog posts.

Instead, they post a new one and point a link to the old blog post. If you’re using WordPress, there is a setting that allows old blog posts to automatically display a link to a new post that is referencing it.

For example, in a few days you will find that the “Credibility in Blogging” post I linked to in the first sentence of this entry will have a link or trackback to this “How To Disclose Blog Edits” entry. Just note that not all WordPress blogs do this. There are different settings under the control of the blog owner.

Let’s try another example of trackbacks in action… This whole responsibility and credibility in blogging series kicked off with my Obliterated: An Anti Pangandaman Blogger entry. My main point is that if you brand or label people online via your blog, and then later delete some of your strong words, then please disclose that fact right there in your blog post.

Yes, it is your blog and you’re free to do as you please (up to a certain point, of course). But I do strongly encourage you to disclose such edits, right there in your blog post.

If you’re a newbie blogger, feel free to experiment. You may stumble at times, but that happens to all of us. We make mistakes (grammatical or otherwise), yet most of us also learn from them and credibly take responsibility for them (instead of just sweeping them under the rug).

I hope this short tutorial helps ease some of your apprehensions about blogging, and encourage you to express your thoughts online. Here’s to more responsibility and credibility in blogging. Mabuhay ang mga bagong blogger!

There is some amount of truth in the “power” of blogging. Believe it or not, but your words online do have an impact on your readers, even on those who are not exactly your fans. And if the readers are your fans, then your blog posts can have an even stronger, long-term effect.

Yes, your words can leave some of your regular readers feeling betrayed.

Here are some ways you can unwittingly (and perhaps unintentionally) exemplify betrayal by blogging:

1. Attack people in public online communities, and afterwards turn those microblogging communities private (after the object of your attack gets wind of what you Twitter-ed). This is the “Twit-Tago” style of microblogging.

2. Have a plagiarized blog post appear in one of the blogs in your network, and then when asked about it say something along the lines of (please note that these are not direct quotes):

Blogger: I don’t know how that post got in there…

Me: Uh… do you suppose your blog was hacked?

Blogger: Let me check with [name of person who posts in that blog]… (and then soon after) M’kay… The blog post has now been edited.

And then… silence. I mean… is that it? Was your blog hacked or what? Any findings after your “let me check”?

This is the “Plagia-Dedma” blogging style.

3. Attack a parent online and impute unethical and immoral behavior (using “proof” which couldn’t stand up against simple questions), and then just delete the post.

This is the “Batok – Bura” blogging technique.

4. Add people to one of your online communities, rally them to your cause, and then un-friend or kick out of the community someone who merely Plurks a valid question or counter-point about a topic you posted.

This is the “Dagdag-Bawas” tactic in Plurk-tatorship.

5. Identify and attack specific people in your blog post, call a father and his son “equally dysfunctional”, influence other bloggers to form a strong judgment (partly because of emotion-laden words such as “dysfunctional”), and then later delete those high impact words with nary an explanation in the blog post itself.

This is the “Insult First-Go Ironic Next” blogging method where two contextually different sentences are presented as being the same (or allegedly having the same meaning).

What is the result of such things? Well, some bloggers have strong personalities and will not meekly turn the other cheek. For example, when Ca T blogs I just felt tired, you will sense a certain history, if you will, with high and mighty bloggers.

When Reynz publishes Royal Blog Santacruzan, you’ll easily see something that sticks out. That’s an example of the long-term effects your blog and Twitter messages can have on others.

Even Bluepanjeet blogs about Credibility and relates it with something important in his life. Do you see how a blog on a fragile screen can intertwine itself with our own lives?

And what about Rom’s It’s Your Blog… I don’t know about you, but after reading that blog post, I sensed that Rom felt betrayed.

Your words can galvanize your readers, influence their thoughts, inspire them to take action and go to battle with you. Your words can rally people behind you and press forward towards what you and they fervently believe in.

And when you simply delete or take those important words back (and not make an appropriate disclosure), won’t that feel like betrayal by blogging?

How would you feel if a blogger you believe in and respect stokes your emotions (through the power of that blogger’s words), gets you to take action (partly because of that blogger’s words), and then silently deletes those important words?

Subukan natin ang Filipino para higit na malinaw:

“Pakiramdam ko, nilaglag ako.”

Which brings us to the Blog-Tagalog or Blogalog Word of the Moment:

NILAG-BLOG – Kapag nahuli ang iyong puso ng isang blog post, pagkatapos ay bigla na lamang buburahin ng blogger (nang walang paliwanag) ang mga salitang gumising ng matinding damdamin sa iyong pagkatao.

“Haynaku… nadenggoy ako nung isang blogger, oh.”
Ha? Bakit?
“Wala… nilag-blog ako.”

There are many ways to gain credibility in blogging, but I’ll just focus on one of them (to avoid confusion, side issues and what-nots).

When you write something in your blog and it gets read by lots of people, and then you subsequently edit a significant portion of your blog post (i.e., a key word or two), please disclose that fact right there in your blog post.

Of course, this is not some kind of rule of law. It’s really up to you, as a blogger. Hey, it’s your blog and your community.

Not that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s move on to other places on the web that talk about blogs and credibility…

Blogging, Journalism and Credibility (TheNation.com) — “We are entering an era in which professionals have lost their monopoly over information–not just the reporting of it, but also the framing of what’s important for the public to know. Have blogs chipped away at the credibility of mainstream media? How have they influenced the way news is being reported? Is credibility a zero-sum game–in which credibility gained by blogs is lost by mainstream media and vice versa?”

Building Blog Credibility – 11 Tips (Problogger.net) — “Perhaps in a similar way the opinion of other bloggers can be a factor in measuring how credible a blog is. This can be measured to some extent by the number of links a blog gets but probably some more in depth analysis of the type of links might be worth looking into.”

What Makes a Website Credible? (Slideshare.net) — Slide 7 shows that “credibility” is believability or a perception based on two factors: Trustworthiness (unbiased, truthful, good, honest) + Expertise (experienced, intelligent, powerful, knowledgeable) [hat tip to Lizz Fransen's Why Should I Believe You? The Credibility of Blogging (LizzFransen.wordpress.com)]

Anyway, it’s interesting to see how some of the things you blog can influence other bloggers (i.e., their writing/editing style, their blog post disclosure behavior). No wonder some anonymous commenters view blogging as vibrantly dynamic. Now is that incredible or what?

Just a quick heads up… I was wondering why the Google Analytics stats for a website showed web traffic diving, and then flat-lining. And then I remember I had changed the WordPress theme. And sure enough, the new theme did not have the required analytics code.

So if ever you notice your web stats dropping, check the footer.php file of your theme. It might be the case of you excitedly updating your blog’s look, that you overlook some required files.

TIP: Keep a site admin diary. Every change you make, list it in your diary so that you can review it and understand better why certain things happen in your site.

So, Lorna, that’s why your traffic dropped. Actually, it did not drop… it was the just the report. Or rather, the lack of a website traffic tracking code. Sorry about that.

Everywhere you go, you’ll always manage to find someone let loose phrases such as financial crisis, credit crunch, or financial meltdown. You’ll find not a few fearful folks who worry about the future. Well, one way of augmenting your income is to find out how to make money online today.

One way to do this is by blogging.

What exactly is blogging? Quite simply, it refers to easily publishing your thoughts, information, suggestions, or even stories online. You can use text, images, audio, and even video. This has helped produce terms such as podcasting (audio blogging), vlogging (video blogging), and even photo blogging.

The thing is, people surf the web every single day searching for answers to their questions, solutions to their problems, or simply entertainment to help fill up what would otherwise be a boring afternoon (or evening). These people need something. And the great thing is, you can help them.

Go on and simply start blogging. Yes, it’s that simple… Just go ahead and do it.

It does not matter if you have nothing to say (for now). Just head on over to Blogger.com or WordPress.com and sign-up for your free blog. Believe me, just the act of signing up for one of those free accounts is enough to get the gears in your mind spinning.

I have friends who’ve procrastinated for months (and even years), and who miraculously now have a blog. It’s amazing, they exclaim. And they often shake their heads wondering why they didn’t try this any sooner.

Whether it’s doing your homework, planning a date for someone you love, going on a diet, or even taking that cruise you’ve long dreamed about, the fact remains is that you need to start somewhere.

Now I could go on and on about how to actually get started with blogging. I could even post a few tutorials on this here page. But that would just be added reading for you, or even an excuse you can latch on to as you (again) procrastinate.

So I won’t. At least not on this page. I’ve already talked about free places where you can sign-up for a free blog. Go there now and just get started, okay?

Janette Toral launches her latest book, Blogging From Home, which is an easy-to-read introductory guide to blogging. The 88-page book has generous screenshots, and the light text will protect newbies or blogging beginners from the info overload that some books cause.

Aside from screenshots of websites mentioned in the book, Janette also presents information in the form of mindmaps, which rapidly summarize key concepts in graphical form, while showing the interrelationships among the various elements of the topic.

UPDATE: Check out Janette Toral’s October 13, 2010 Blogging 101 Webinar.

Hmmm… that sounded like heavy blog reading, so here’s a graphic to lighten things up.

The book has a companion website at BloggingFromHome.com, which comes with updates such as a tutorial series in video format. This is a wonderful addition for those whose interest in blogging moves them to seek more information beyond the basics offered in Janette Toral’s book.

Thank you, Janette, for the complimentary copy (Digital Filipino members get a copy, so join today!), and for featuring my other web site in your chapter about Giveaways.
