01. Start a blog.

It doesn’t have to look fancy. But it does need to contain WORDS, because words have the power to attract and hold the attention of people.

Not just any words. Choose words which get people curious.

And remember, the title of your blog post is important.

Why blog? Your blog has the power to gain higher visibility in the search engines, especially when you publish useful content on a regular basis, and when you promote or market your blog.

02. Tell a story.

This is one of the ways you can easily write blog posts that contain 450 to 600 words, without boring your readers. People love to read stories and experiences of other folks. And when you reveal a personal anecdote, some readers will even end up saying that they’ve known you for so long after they meet you in person for the first time.

03. Share useful things.

It’s not all about you and your stories. You also need to publish useful articles that people you wish to attract will be able to use to solve their immediate problems.

Is there something they want to gain or regain? Health, wealth, love?

Or something they wish to get rid of? Pain, poverty, a relationship that’s not working out?

The thing is, you have personal experiences that you can draw from. You can tap that and share life lessons and concrete tips with others. And the internet allows you to do that for FREE.

04. Connect via Facebook.

Have you seen the different ads of SMART, Globe, and Sun? It’s Facebook this, and Facebook that. Some have even estimated that over 90% of the population of Filipino internet users has an FB account.

When we Filipinos have our Kodakan moments, don’t you usually hear “O, pang-Facebook!” instead of “Say Chess…”?

Create your FB profile page and also your Facebook fanpage. Then promote your FB pages in your blog.

05. Connect via Twitter.

There’s something about exchanging tweets or Twitter messages with thousands of people in real-time. During the Pilipinas Got Talent grandfinals (Season 2), PGT was a trending topic in Twitter, and Filipinos were actively connecting with one another and guessing who the winners would be.

We even got a response from Rico the Magician! His response was “Salamat po” and his fans at home were starstruck. They read and re-read his tweet a bajillion times.

06. Connect via Tumblr.

Tumblr allows you to easily publish photos cellphone. Simply snap a picture using your cell phone, then send it to your secret Tumblr email address, and within minutes your Tumblr blog gets updated. It’s so easy!

You can also email your voice recording (MP3 format) to your Tumblr account, and people will be able to play that MP3 file online.

07. Connect via Google+.

Google Plus is relatively new, and most of the people there are sharing techie news, cute (and not so cute) animated GIFs, awesome photos, or questions in search of answers.

So, why bother? Please remember that at some point in time, Twitter and Facebook were quite new. It pays to connect with the early adopters.

08. Connect via YouTube.

If you look around you, most people would rather watch than read. They flock to YouTube and watch music videos, but that doesn’t mean you’re limited to producing only such types of vids.

You can create your own video (about anything), and then upload it to YouTube. You can also embed or insert that video in your blog. This gives your blog readers a glimpse of your personality.

Here’s an example:

Try not to worry too much if you think your eyebags are too big, or you’re having a bad hair day, or the lighting’s not that flattering. Just publish something that’s informative, helpful, or entertaining.

09. Connect with Bloggers.

There are numerous Filipinos who express themselves via their blogs. If you search Twitter or Facebook, you’ll find them. So go out and visit their blogs.

And do more than visit. Actually read their blogs. And leave relevant comments.

Get to know them, and some of them will try to get to know you, too. And more than that, there are bloggers who will wholeheartedly support and promote your advocacy program.

10. Publish in many formats.

You can take the articles that you have published in your blog, and then transform them into different formats. For example, make an audio recording of the article, create a PowerPoint presentation, package your best blog posts as an ebook in Amazon Kindle format, or create an online video presentation.

From the above tips you will see that the main goal is to reach different different people in various popular places online. Look for where the people are, then make yourself visible.

Imagine that, Lola Techie is being treated as some kind of computer helpdesk! Usually, it’s the elders who ask help from their techie grandkids. Not in this commercial, though.

I wonder, though, why Bayan DSL isn’t making full use of YouTube to market their LolaTechie.com brand. Perhaps it’s a timing issue? Anyway, you’ll find Lola Techie in Facebook (complete with fan page), Multiply (where lots of Filipinos sell items online), Twitter, and Plurk.

Internet marketing, internet ubiquity. Lola Techie wants to be seen all over the internet, and she is targeting the popular online watering holes frequented by a lot of Filipinos.

Do you know how I found out about this commercial? Nope, not via TV.

I stumbled upon it because of Macuha.com’s The Funny Bayan DSL Lola Techie Commercial, which I visited because of a tweet that Marhgil Macuha posted in his Twitter account.

In other words, here’s how the visitor flow goes: From Twitter, to blog, product’s main web site, to product’s Multiply/Facebook/Twitter/Plurk social media marketing sites.

Let’s see how many companies and consumer product marketing groups will follow suit. And if Bayan DSL will allow other telcos or internet service providers to have their own account in Multiply.
