Do you have a Facebook account? If not, when are you planning to get one?
In Internet users now have more and closer friends than those offline, Casey Johnston calls someone who has a computer and an internet connection but no Facebook profile a “weirdo outcast.”
That is based on a study conducted by the Pew Research Center, which surveyed 2,255 American adults in October and November of 2010. I wonder how things will be if Pinoys were surveyed. 😉
From what we’ve seen, some people managed to get in touch once again with their high school and college classmates thanks to Facebook. This has lead to get-togethers and reunions, which otherwise would not have materialized if it weren’t for the convenience in communication, with the help of Facebook.

University of Pennsylvania professor Keith Hampton is the lead author of the report.
One disturbing finding: The social fallout from the digital divide. People who are not online have the smallest social networks, are more socially isolated, get the least amount of social support and are least likely to vote, Hampton said.
Let’s see now… There are an estimated 24 million Filipinos who have a Facebook account, while there are roughly 29 million Filipinos with an Internet account. In the coming months, we can expect even more Pinoys to get on FB.
As to whether Pinoys will spend more time on Facebook remains to be seen. Some FB adik-adiks will probably taper off, but from quick and informal interviews we’re seeing an increase in the number of Filipino FB users.
