Webhosting Does Not Last

I wonder if you can still count the number of times you’ve switched from one web host to another. I’ve tried. And hoped. And even thought I had found THE host to stay with.

Yet sadly, even those which were reliable for the past two years are recently experiencing frequent downtimes.

For some reason, they choose not to communicate with their clients about this.

Oh well. Perhaps it’s time to move to another host.

Janina San Miguel – Bb. Pilipinas 2008

You’ve heard about how Janina San Miguel won in the Bb. Pilipinas 2008 beauty pageant. And since her use of the English language was less than stellar during the Q&A portion, a lot of people complained.

Why did she win, some people wonder.

How can someone who cannot communicate well in English win Miss World Philippines?

Check out the comments posted online, particularly the ones written in English.

…there must be a misunderstanding or miscalculations with the scores last night…

They were given trainings and enough exposures bago pa ung event itself. lets wish her luck nalang on the upcoming Ms. World pageant….Nevertheless, she don’t deserve the title.

Oh my goodness! VERY elementary fragmented English and yet she can’t barely complete it…

i can’t believe she managed to reached college with that grammar… where the hell is your communication skills…

I guess the pageant was mistakenly judge…

…so sad and so embarressing.

i can speak fluent English at the age of 12. She’s a COLLEGE student. BroadComm major not to mention. what the hell is happening in our society? is this a clear manifestation of degradation in our country’s education system? had it been me, i’ve already committed suicide. this is very humiliating.

if i am ur english teacher ill give u a grade of 5… being a first timer is not an excuse gurl! u better enroll in an english proficiency course… and by the way.. is that what ur english teacher have taught u?

hey guys! tell me.. did she really won the pageant?!

This is so intolerable!!! If she goes to represent our country, then the Filipinos would be known as a bunch of people who does not know how to speak straight English!!!

shame on you janina…how did u won???intriguing huh…wat d heck….

your English is not that good so better keep it up haha….

so does this means that the pageant is all beauty and no brains???

Here’s the response of Janina San Miguel.

Here’s my reaction to this whole thing, after viewing Janina’s interview and post-incident response: First of all, I’m not from UE nor am I a friend or relative of Janina. Still, I wonder how we can help more Filipinos–at least those who wish to do so–speak better English.

No, I am not judging Janina’s communication skills. I am acknowledging, however, that a lot of my fellow Filipinos do struggle with the English language. And I can’t shake the feeling that things are getting worst. (Just kidding! I meant “worse.”) ๐Ÿ˜›

Will online English tutorials help? What do you think?

Social Networking and eBusiness Conference Philippines 2008

You simply cannot escape it. Everywhere you look, people are either already on the internet, or are moving towards it. And since businesses are ever-chasing after their customers, you can expect traditional companies to slowly make their way online.

And that’s why the Social Networking and eBusiness Conference Philippines 2008 comes at an opportune time.

The conference is organized by Fiera de Manila Inc. and the DigitalFilipino.com Club, and will be held at Hotel Intercontinental, Ayala Avenue, Makati City on May 20 and 21, 2008.

This whole concept of Social Networking and Social Media is quite new here in the Philippines. In fact, it is still rather “new” even in the rest of the world, because we are seeing companies stumble and bumble about as they try to figure out the social web.

Just to be clear, though, I believe that stumbling about is good. We should embrace it. It’s how we chance upon winner products.

And that’s why I would like to attend this event: I would like to meet fellow stumblers, those intrepid few who dare try something different in an environment which continues to treat the internet as a tiny buzzing noise in the background. I would like to exchange views with you, and journey with you in this emerging business landscape. And I would also like to learn how to help IT and Marketing work more closely with one another, as businesses and customers get together in yet another unavoidable watering hole of our lives: the internet.

(And if you’re interested, too, here’s how to get a free delegate pass to the event. See you there!)

David Gonzales

David Gonzales (DavidVGonzales.com) blogs about gadgets, making money online, and living in the Philippines.

Although his site is quite new, he already has at least 20 RSS subscribers.

I like the way he mixes gadget reviews along with posts about writing.

This is another example of a blogger who started in BlogSpot, and then decided to get a domain name. Something you should, folks, especially if you’re interested in the long-term earning potential of your writings online. ๐Ÿ™‚

Niche Annihilation Videos Are Slow

Rob Benwell reveals how REAL money is being made online, and not too many people know about his Niche Annihilation Method (NAM). What the NAM ebook does not readily explain, however, is how Benwell slowly built-up his network of sites.

And that means content. And hard work. And patience.

If you’re the kind of person interested in creating and selling content online (nope, no AdSense fanatics here), please read the review of Niche Annihilation Method.

I hope you have a good broadband connection, though, because bulk of the information is delivered by Benwell in the form of flash videos. Some of the ones I’ve viewed (which ran for more than 5 minutes), can be summarized in about 3 paragraphs, which you can read in 1 minute.

(By the way, it took me about 20 minutes to download the 5 minute video. I wonder why more internet marketers are moving towards video-only content. I wish they had a quick text summary, or something.)

Dagupan City Jail Podcast

You’ve watched the Cebu inmates dance to Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Now, we hear that the Dagupan City Jail even has its own podcast:

http://bjmpdcj.mypodcast.com
(Started in February 24, 2008 thanks to the assistance of 31 year-old inmate “Bill.”)

You can also check their blog in http://bjmpdagupancityjail.blogspot.com/

I completely missed this in the Feb. 29 issue of the Philippine Star.

It’s a good thing I saw the entry in the Twitter channel of Jim Ayson.

Will this lead to a resurgence of Pinoy podcasting? Abangan… ๐Ÿ™‚
